The challenge of a constantly changing environment is inspiring my returner journey

I’m 38, from New Zealand and I have been living in the UK for almost 17 years. I was been previously working as an IT recruiter, which helped me discover my passion for programming and wanted to change my career so, I quit my job in July to focus on getting a career as a developer.

I love sport and have represented England in touch rugby for a number of years, The North west & Lancashire for a rugby Union and was a semi-pro rugby 7s player for a couple of years before my Achilles decided it had had enough. I have a British gold medal for Olympic weightlifting and also European Bronze medal and now i’ve hung up my lifting shoes because my back has had enough too!

I previously did a code with Manchester Codes in 2018 however, due to the nature of my recruitment career, it made it really hard to focus on the course work and I missed a number of classes and by the time the course finished I wasn’t really at a level where I was confident to pursue a career as a developer.

Why a career in Tech

I get excited by learning about it, being creative, using a part of my brain that I didn’t know I had. I relish the challenge that if offers. Technology is exciting, it’s an always changing environment and I want to be a part of that.
