A desire for great useable tech is inspiring my returner journey

I’m an electronic engineering graduate with 8 years of professional project management experience within a blue-chip pharmaceuticals company. My own two children have now moved onto tertiary education and I am looking for my next challenge.

My tech skills started way back with BBC Basic and 6502 machine code. In the early days of the internet, I was tasked with creating internal pages for knowledge transfer and learned HTML. In the past 3 years, I have been involved in the organisation of PyCon UK, the UK Python community conference. This year I've taken on the role of communications director and director of sponsorship.

I am a Chartered Engineer with more than 10 years experience of working in the voluntary and community sector and 10 years experience of running my own business, an educational franchise.

Why a career in Tech

I have a numerical/scientific/technical background and have always been interested in innovative ways to make use of technology. I am excited by the creativity which is inherent in technology and tech careers but also believe that creating good, usable technology for a diverse user base needs a diverse tech development community.
