It’s safe to say in the past few months, a LOT has changed. From face to face learning to a fully remote model, to finding new and innovative ways to engage with our returner community and the businesses we work with. Something we’re happy to say hasn’t changed is the level of talent and the amount of passion for careers in technology in the individuals we’ve seen come through our ranks.
Since a UK wide lockdown was announced we’ve enabled 15 returners into careers in technology. Out of those 15, 14 were women. All have worked through challenging situations to come out the other side and fulfil their dreams of careers in technology.
It’s also testament to the hard work of the entire Tech Returners team. So just over the halfway point of the year, we wanted to take a look back at some of the amazing talent we’ve seen this year who are now in tech careers.
January 2020 saw 15 female returners complete our returner programme with sponsors Booking.com, who were keen to increase diversity across their teams by sponsoring the ‘Absolute’ version of our programme. This meant all of the sponsored places would go on to do software development, engineering or cloud engineer roles. Booking.com hired 100% of their sponsored places!
March 2020 and just a couple of weeks into lockdown, we saw the completion of another Absolute cohort for female returners with the BBC in London, the second time we’d worked with the organisation.
Alongside this, a ‘collective’ cohort of returner talent sponsored by AutoTrader and Infinity Works were moving through their 15-week programme with a final presentation evening in May. Whilst returners from previous cohorts were starting roles with Infinity Works as Full Stack Developers and AutoTrader hired more than their sponsored amount of places, having seen the highest ever assessment centre scores in their history from our returners! 5 more returners will soon start their careers with AutoTrader.
Since 2017 we’ve enabled more than 50 careers back into technology. 88% of those returners were women. All of our returners are experienced individuals ready to refresh and reignite their skills and leave our programmes ready to return to a mid-level - senior career in tech. We are fortunate to have more demand for our programmes than ever before.
