The research piece which will be delivered by a team at The University of Manchester Business School will identify the numbers of women who have left and returned to the technology sector and their returning salary levels alongside the reasons why women haven’t returned to the sector and what this means for the potential talent pipeline.
PWC research carried out in 2016 identified there was 427,000 female returners in the UK, with 80% wanting to return to careers given the right training, support and opportunities. Research conducted in 2018 by The Edge Foundation identified there were 600,000 vacancies in the UK technology sector placing £141.5 billion of future growth at risk if left unaddressed. This research seeks to demonstrate how re-skilling and supporting returners into or back into technology can positively impact the labour market and the economy and enable and empower a pipeline of talent which is currently untapped.
The piece will comprise of a survey of over 1,000 individuals, in depth interviews with respondents, financial analysis and insight from employers to understand the talent needs of the sector.
